Washington, DC welcomes the Section of Taxation to the 2008 May Meeting, May 8-10, 2008. Join us and take advantage of the opportunity to meet with the country’s leading attorneys and government officials to discuss the latest federal tax policies, initiatives, regulations, legislative forecasts and planning ideas. In addition, you will have the opportunity to earn valuable CLE and ethics credits and network with Tax Section members and government guests. The Grand Hyatt - Washington, DC will serve as the host hotel.


Meeting Highlights

SECTION BREAKFAST WITH DOUG SHULMAN (Ticketed Event)
The Section is pleased to announce that Douglas H. Shulman, Commissioner, Internal Revenue Service, will address attendees of the 2008 May Meeting at the Section Breakfast on Friday, May 9th at 7:15am at the Grand Hyatt Washington. The breakfast is a ticketed event and attendees must register to attend.

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
The Distinguished Service Award was established to underscore the ABA Section of Taxation’s respect for and support of professionalism within the tax bar. The Distinguished Service Award Committee has selected M. Carr Ferguson, Jr., Senior Counsel in Davis Polk & Wardell''s Tax Department, as the recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding service to the profession.  The award will be presented at the Section Breakfast on Friday, May 9th.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM (Registration Required)
The Section of Taxation Professional Services and Diversity Committees, and the Section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Community Outreach Committee are pleased to present the Community Outreach Program, a special continuing legal education program at the 2008 May Meeting on Thursday afternoon, May 8th. The program is designed to teach lawyers what they never learned in law school but need to know to get started in a specialized field and it seeks to reach lawyers -- especially young lawyers and ethnic and minority group members -- having a hard time finding a professional niche.

This year’s program will provide 3 hours of CLE on the basics of like-kind exchanges and commercial real estate. Please note that registration is required for this program. To register, please contact the Tax Section Registrar at 202-662-8670 or salmont@staff.abanet.org
