Meeting Highlights

TAX EXEMPT TRAINING AND RECEPTION
Education on Web-based Tools for Nonprofits and Their Advisors - Designed for non-lawyer administrators and managers of tax exempt organizations, the workshop will focus on how to use online IRS tools that provide guidance on the exemption qualifications for non-profit status and the latest information about ongoing reporting requirements. An overview, training materials and a ‘cheatsheet’ primer will provide information about 501(c)(3)-potholes-to-avoid. For more information, please CLICK HERE.

SECTION BREAKFAST WITH ERIC SOLOMON (Registration Required)
The Section is pleased to announce that Eric Solomon, Assistant Secretary (Tax Policy), U.S. Department of the Treasury, will address attendees of the 2007 May Meeting at the Section Breakfast on Friday, May 11th at 7:15am at the Grand Hyatt Washington. The breakfast is a ticketed event and attendees must register to attend.

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
The Distinguished Service Award was established to underscore the ABA Section of Taxation’s respect for and support of professionalism within the tax bar. The Distinguished Service Award Committee has selected Loretta Collins Argrett, Retired Tax Professional, as the recipient of the 2007 Distinguished Service Award for her outstanding service to the profession.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM (Registration Required)
The Section of Taxation Professional Services and Diversity Committees, and the Section of Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Community Outreach Committee are pleased to present the Community Outreach Program, a new continuing legal education program at the 2007 May Meeting on Thursday, May 10th. The program is designed to teach lawyers what they never learned in law school but need to know to get started in a specialized field and it seeks to reach lawyers-especially young lawyers and minority group members-having a hard time finding a professional niche. See p. 21 in the Preliminary Program for further details. Please note that registration is required for this program.
