9:20am             Fahrenheit Philanthropy - Transactions Too Hot to Touch. This presentation will discuss transaction structures which use tax-exempt organizations as accommodation parties to benefit their promoters rather than the charities and gives rise to a broader discussion of ethics, common sense, as well as the future of regulation and self-regulation for the charity sector.  Panelist: Elizabeth L. Mathieu, Asset Management Advisors, Greenwich, CT.

 

9:55am             Migrating Clients - What it Takes to Establish Residency.  The panel will discuss the problems and opportunities facing our clients who move from one state to another and will review planning techniques available to minimize state law conflicts, tax and creditor concerns.  Panelists: David Pratt, Proskauer Rose LLP, Boca Raton, FL; Eric Carter, Giordani Schurig Beckett Tackett LLP, Austin, TX.

 

10:35am            Planning for the Closely Held Business Owner - The Charitable Options.  This presentation will review the commonly used charitable vehicles; outline the tax issues presented when charitable vehicles are funded with business assets; and discuss the testamentary and lifetime charitable strategies available to the business owner.
